The Humans were the Second Creation of the Tonalteotlcah, the Ancient Claimants of the Stellar Throne, birthed into the world after the Dragons. Unlike the Dragons, who were created to act as a aid to the Tonalteotlcah when the Forebearer would wake once more, the Humans were built with a focus on being able to survive and learn, with the hope that they would one day join in their fight with creations of their own. Compounded with a blessing from Nellayotlni, the Humans were able to thrive and during the Age of the Fifth Sun created a vast civilization that spread across the entirety of Desolation.

Humans are currently extinct to the knowledge of each of the other races, only remaining on through their descendant races.

The Humans, both through time spent adrift within Ark Vessels in the Aether and through their use of Fifth Sun Technology have evolved into many distinct descendant races, each of which have developed into their own unique shells following their arrival to Creation's Rest and the Elemental Halos.

The Hym are the most direct descendant, having evolved separately from exposure to Arcanum within the Aether. They have a handful of glands in the neck that repurposed themselves through development to allow them to utilize Arcanum for Magic. They also retained the intentional modifications that the Humans made to themselves via Fifth Sun Technology that created much greater variation in hair and eye color. The Hym later had small populations split into the Ashlanders and the Aquari.

Through more intense genetic modification, the Humans eventually also created the Beast Heart, known as the Beast Folk or Beast Kin at the time of their creation, and the Shifters, formerly known as Slip-Skins. These descendant races were the result of massive restructuring of their genetic code via lost Fifth Sun Technology.

Humans also constructed the constructs that would be known later on as the Gearborn, taking the height of knowledge to new heights within Fifth Sun Technology.

Outside of the modifications that the Humans made to some of themselves and their descendant races, the Pianimeh, Usurpers of the Machine, based all of their creations, the Cuallicallimeh, off of how the Humans were designed.

Humans are the base that each of the Cuallicallimeh were designed after, and are a direct ancestor to the Hym. Overall, their appearance is similar, with only minor internal changes through varying organ structure and being slightly shorter on average. Other than that, the differences between the two are unknown due to the lack of remains of Humans on Creation's Rest.

Some legends and old stories passed verbally by the Hym mention their ancestors having scattered latent abilities that lie outside of what is commonly perceived as Magic, but those cases were isolated and never extended past individuals within the stores. Additionally, as they lack adaptations that allow other races to utilize Arcanum or Leviance, they are, for the most part, unable to use Magic at all.

Humans spoke a variety of languages that have been long lost, but are known as the Ancient Human Tongues collectively.

Humans are the main focus through the stories that surround the oldest of tales told by the Hym; they themselves are thought to be an idealized version of the Hym.
