Backstory and History
Born and raised in the village of Ners, Kavendra has spent her life under the influence of the flow of Leviance throughout Noctem and flowing in from Tellus. Life in Ners was peaceful; a slow remote village surviving through sustenance farming and crafting simple goods to trade with those passing through. Even with this slow and peaceful life, her parents spent most of their time outside the village exploring old ruins throughout Noctem from the ages of Primil dominance across The Mooring. Kavendra was brought along on some of these expeditions during her formative years, aiding in instilling an interest in the world both beyond Noctem and the world that lies in its ancient past. Each trip into the structures of her ancestors built this interest deeper and deeper into her being, until it became an obsession of her own.
Most expeditions of her parents were simple journeys where all they found were old structures and hints about life in the past: changes in the uses of Magic and how it fluctuated throughout history, the differences in the cultural representation of her people, and how people moved around throughout Noctem and the Elemental Halos. On rare occasions, her family would stumble into ruins that contained treasures from that long forgotten age, allowing them to live a lavish life compared to others in the village, but these expeditions often led to injuries and near misses with death. The rare "Golden Expeditions" that Kavendra got to tag along on were those to known ruins, those where the traps left behind were disarmed and what remained was simple hints into history. But some ruins held secrets that remain hidden to explorers, only to be uncovered by those long after the first to pass through.
On Kavendra's third expedition with her family, they were exploring a ruin that rest near the edge of Noctem that was inhabited by ancient worshipers of a being said to lay beyond the will of the gods. The ruins themselves were not abnormal for their purpose and use, monuments to divine beings and remnants of worship halls and offering basins mixed in with structures to house the faithful, and scattered about were stone etchings describing their rites of worship. The ruin was thought to have been fully searched, excavated to its fullest, but a miss-step of her father lead to uncovering a previously undiscovered tunnel, one they assumed had been known. The Kalyx family went through the tunnel with the young Kavendra at their tail, eventually reaching a chamber deep beneath the primary alter that held a large ring standing in the center of the room on an alter of its own with statues littering the rooms edge. Its base was left inscribed in text, a mix of Noctan and an unknown language. As her father begun to attempt translation, her mother began examining the ring and the intricate carving upon it that told the tale of a being being worshiped over a distant world and their fall into obscurity. Kavendra remained along the outer wall of the room, appreciating the statues that littered the perimeter, each crafted with such detail that they could be nothing less than the life's work of their maker.
As they began wrapping up their initial search of the room with what drew their interest, her mother and father in the center and Kavendra at the periphery, the ring activated as words in an unknown tongue echoed throughout the space. A deep blue light arced outward from the ring, ripping into her mother and father and pulling them into its center. Kavendra was left in the room alone, and as the light the ring took her parents away dissipated, the memory of them was partially ripped away as well, leaving Kavendra unsure of their names or faces outside of a loving smile and the warm feeling of their love. In their place at the center of the room, placed at the foot of the ring, a piece of parchment remained, blank aside from the words "Creation's Rest" written in the handwriting of her mother under a depiction of the ring that took her.
Kavendra fled the ruins with the parchment in hand, running until she reached the home of her uncle, Kalesyn. He seemed to recall even less of his sister then Kavendra did, hardly even recalling that she exist, but having vivid memories of his own childhood and the time he spent with Kavendra made him want for nothing more than her safety. He brought her into his home, letting her rest and recover, then set out to the location of her family's home later that day. There, they discovered whatever had whisked away her parents has also taken the physical mark of their impact on the world; in the place of her home stood an empty plot of land filled with Noctalweave Grass, growing tall as if nothing had rested there before. She reached adulthood in the home of her uncle—who over time became more of an older brother to her—refusing to part ways with the parchment that acted as the final physical tie to her parents. She held the parchment for years, learning more about the world and trying to dig deeper into what could have happened that day in the ruins. After reaching countless dead ends, Kavendra stepped out into the world heading to the realm named on that parchment, hopeful that there she could find more out about the ring that stole her family, and maybe find a way to bring them back.
