History

Significance

Mechanics and Inner Workings

Uses magic to provide a small amount of force to launch the spear forward rapidly. While not great at piecing objects due to its low speed, it is excellent at wrapping around them and restraining them so that one can approach and attack the target with more traditional means.

Construction

Materials and Components

The Harpoon is split into three components:

Spear and Chain
Barrel and Bungee
Trigger and Grip

When combined, the Harpoon has the following features:
Statblocks

Dankil Family Harpoon

Weapon, Whip, Melee/Ranged 30/60ft
Hip Mounted, Special, Attunement

A weapon once wielded by Tharkas Dankil during his journeys across the Sea of Whispered, dismantled then reassembled.

Features

+3 to hit, 3d8 Bludgeoning Damage if target is within 30ft, 2d8 Bludgeoning Damage if the Target is within 60ft

For each piece of the Harpoon missing, subtract +1 from the to hit and 1d8 from the damage

If completely assembled with all three pieces, when making a successful attack with this weapon, you may forgo dealing damage to have the spear wrap around your target instead of hitting them, restraining them until they can beat a DC18 STR save. They can repeat this saving throw at the start of each of their turns. When restrained in this way, you may forgo future attacks to attempt to pull the target in closer to you. If unwilling, you and the target make opposing STR checks, for each 5 above their roll you get, add an additional 5ft pulled inwards. The minimum distance you pull a target inward when successful is 5ft.
