Lycanthropy
Condition Type and Affection
Lycanthropy is a Parasite Condition that can effect any of the Tonallitecameh, as well as Beasts and Monsters
Origin
Lycanthropy is caused as one being parasitized by a Lycanolouse. The first stages are rather tame, often being confused for other ailments, with later stages being closer to known Lycanthropy.
Rarity
Incredibly Rare
Transmission/Vectors
Pools of water within humid environments, scavenger animals and beasts
Cause
Lycanthropy is caused by the Lycanolouse.
Symptoms
The earliest symptoms to appear are enlargement of the nose and slight memory loss in addition to longer/fast growing fingernails, with later stages being marked by the infected person appearing in areas without recalling how they got there to being covered in blood of animals or people. These later stage symptoms are a result of a complete transformation having occurred.
A complete transformation is the last stage of lycanthropy, casing rapid hair growth when transformed as well as increased muscle mass and quicker reflexes. For some, their teeth sharpen while out of this transformed state, and their fingernails thicken into claw-like structures.
Treatment
The only treatments for Lycanthropy are to remove the Lycanolouse that is infecting the host, which can usually only be done after restraining the host and slowly digging the louse out of their back and from around their spine. The louse has to remain alive for this process, and have its mouth removed last as it dying can cause catastrophic nerve damage to the host. Any damage caused during the removal of the parasite is typically so severe that it would require high level healing magic, such as Regenerate or spells of higher magnitude (7th level +), to restore.
Prognosis
Most with Lycanthropy end up killed, not due to the parasite itself, but for being mistaken for a monster and killed or after being run out of towns and forced into the wilderness.
Sequela
The most common sequela of Lycanthropy stem from being cured of it and range from Paralysis, Nerve and Tissue Damage, and odd cravings as well as insanity. Injuries that occur while transformed
Prevention
Prevention of Lycanthropy is fairly easy, avoiding Lycanthropes and small polls of moss and algae filled waters.
History
Cultural Reception
Those infected with Lycanthropy are often shunned and forced out of the communities they reside within. Some cults revere lycanthropy as a gift from The Beastlord, however they are seen as outliers among their devotees.
Progression
Lycanthropy (Pure-Homid Lycanthrope)
Recently infected Lycanthropes have had little time to allow the infection to take root. The Lycanolouse on their back has only just begun to effect their body. Their transformed form is little more than excess hair growth and changes to the shape of their pupils. Infected also dislike having others touch or see their back, a trait caused by the Lycanolouse residing there.
Features
Keen Scent
- You gain advantage on Perception Checks that rely on smell
Unexpected Muscle Growth
- You gain +1 to melee attack rolls
Aversions
- You avoid other people, or yourself from looking at your back. Due to the Lycanolouse's influence, doing so causes you to quickly hide your back and turn it away from others, taking a number of d4 in psychic damage equal to your proficiency bonus. This damage overcomes resistances and immunities.
- Memory gaps tied to nightly transformations you try to come up with reasons why they exist, feeling uncomfortable with them when others bring them up.
Lycanthropic Transformation
- At night, you must make a DC8 Constitution Saving Throw. On a failure, you transform, growing more muscle and hair across your body. You remain unconscious for this period, as the Lycanolouse controls your body. It cannot speak or use any of your spells, but it is able to use simple items of yours to complete its goals. On a success, the DC increases by 1 each night you have successfully saved against it. This transformation does not cause a rest to be interrupted, but may lead to incomplete healing or other effects as the DM decides.
- While transformed, you have resistance to physical damage caused by non-silvered weapons.
Bloodlust
- If you start your turn with fewer hit points than half your hit point maximum, you must succeed on a DC 8 Wisdom saving throw or move directly toward the nearest creature and use the Attack action against that creature. If you’re concentrating on a spell or are under an effect that prevents you from concentrating (such as the barbarian’s Rage feature), you automatically fail this saving throw.
- If you have your Extra Attack feature, you can choose whether to use it for this frenzied attack. If more than one creature is equally near to you, roll randomly to determine your target. Once your attack is resolved, you regain control of yourself.
Lycanthropy (Half-Homid Lycanthrope)
The Lycanolouse causing Lycanthropy has burrowed in and established more control and influence over their body. Their transformation now involved hair covering all of their body, changes in eye shape and elongation of the nostrils. They gain extra muscle mass as well as hightened senses.
